On December 8, 2022, in Hanoi, Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and Samsung Electronics Vietnam (Samsung) signed a memorandum of comprehensive cooperation for the period of 2023 – 2025. This is a successful continuation of the cooperation agreement between the two partners in the period of 2018 – 2022, marking the fact that PTIT and Samsung have raised the cooperation level to a new development step with the aim of focusing on fostering talents in the future in mobile application research and development.

Attending the signing ceremony were Vice Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam, Mr. Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam Complex, Mr. Suk Ji Won, Director of Samsung R&D Center Vietnam. On the side of PTIT, there were Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of PTIT’s Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, President of PTIT.

According to the cooperation agreement, each year Samsung offers 20 scholarships in the “STP Scholarship Program” for PTIT students, each worth about 70 million VND for final year students. Winning students will have to attend courses according to Samsung’s curriculum (Application of Algorithms …), will be arranged to practice (full-time) at Samsung’s R&D Center and be supervised to complete research projects with Samsung. During the implementation of the cooperation agreement, Samsung continues to sponsor/maintain the mobile application research training room at PTIT campus, including computers, projectors, screens, tables and chairs and related equipment with a capacity of 40 students studying and working. Along with that, PTIT and Samsung will implement research cooperation projects on mobile technology. Another noteworthy content is that the program is Samsung’s recruitment activities for PTIT students. PTIT announces Samsung’s scholarship and recruitment programs to students on many channels such as message boards, websites, forums, facebook… and actively supports Samsung in recruitment.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of PTIT’s Council affirmed: “PTIT highly appreciates Samsung during the past 10 years of cooperation with very deep and quality cooperation in supporting students and supporting teachers in scientific research. For suggestions and support from Samsung, PTIT also built a suitable learning program for students and there were changes in the program in the way of teaching and in support for students, lecturers. We are pleased to see that all those changes have paid off.” The Chancellor added: “In recent years, both sides have made new developments. On Samsung’s side, SVMC – the unit that directly cooperates with PTIT – has completed the construction of the new facility and has expanded its activities. On the PTIT side, we have also made great progress and it is expected that by 2025, PTIT will have more than 20,000 full-time students and be the largest ICT training institution in Vietnam. With that development, it is hoped that in the coming time, both sides will have more effective and progressive cooperation activities than in the previous period.”

Representative of Samsung Vietnam, Mr. Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam Complex highly appreciated PTIT in human resource training. “Established in 1997 under the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications, with the constant efforts of generations of teachers and students, PTIT has become one of the most prestigious universities, making great contributions to the development of Vietnam.” Mr. Choi Joo Ho emphasized: “PTIT’s excellent human resources working at Samsung through the cooperation program between the two sides are also one of the factors contributing to Samsung’s development in Vietnam”. The representative of Samsung Vietnam is also committed to making efforts to provide many opportunities for PTIT graduates with good working conditions at Samsung Vietnam, and also commits to actively support and invest in the development of Vietnam’s ICT industry.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Phan Tam, the Vice Minister of Information and Communications highly appreciated the successes that the two sides have achieved in the past stages of cooperation: “This is a remarkable result and also makes a very positive contribution to the development of ICT human resources in Vietnam”. The Vice Minister affirmed: “The success of this agreement as well as the success of Samsung Vietnam in the past period have contributed to strengthening the strategic cooperation relationship between the two countries Vietnam – Korea, contributing to promoting the cooperation between the two countries”.

Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology and Samsung Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement from 2014 and an extension in 2018. Up to now, 124 PTIT students have received Samsung SPT talent scholarships, 2,500 students attended more than 50 training courses on applied algorithms, of which 650 excellent students received certificates. Many PTIT students are also given the opportunity to practice and work at Samsung after graduation according to the content of the signed agreement.
