On October 31, the conference “Evidence-based policy and higher education: progress, pitfalls and promise” within the framework of the international project “Monitoring trends in Vietnamese graduates’ employment” (MOTIVE) was opened in Hanoi and hosted by the Academy of Journalism and Communications. As one of 11 universities and project member organizations, Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology participated at-site  and online seminars from October 31 to November 3, 2022.

The conference is a forum for experts to exchange research results on the employment status of graduates and the use of these results to improve the quality of training and as a basis for formulating policies in university education. Employment of graduate students is one of the important indicators of the training quality of an educational institution. The rate of students having jobs and the percentage of students having jobs in the right majors is always the top concern of educational institutions.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communications, underscored that the conference was a forum for experts to exchange research results on the employment status of graduates and the use of these results to improve the quality of training, and as a basis for formulating policies. Secondly, educational institutions need to strengthen career guidance, career counseling and connect students with employers. Thirdly, at the macro level, education policies need to be based on specific examples and practices, meeting the development requirements of industries, fields and development trends of the country.

Speaking at the workshop, H.E. Antonio Alessandro, the Ambassador of Italy to Vietnam highly appreciated the development and implementation of the project. The results of the project are practical, directly serving training activities, career guidance and assisting students in finding jobs. The Italian Embassy in Vietnam is interested in promoting cooperation between Vietnamese and Italian universities. The Italian Embassy will continue to support the implementation of the MOTIVE project and similar projects in the future.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Bui Tien Dung, representative of the Department of Political Education and Student Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training, said that universities need solutions to improve vocational skills. Career guidance, career counseling and job search support should be paid attention to. The results of the MOTIVE project will be of value as a reference for the Ministry of Education and Training in formulating educational policies.
