From May 18 to May 20, 2022, the project Monitoring Trends In Vietnamese graduates’ Employment (MOTIVE) organized the seminar “Graduates and the labor market”. As a project partner, PTIT’s delegation led by Dr. Vu Tuan Lam participated in this workshop hosted by the AlmaLaurea Association of Universities in Bologna (Italy).

The participants of the workshop, on the European side, included the Association of Universities AlmaLaurea, FH Joaneum University of Applied Sciences (Austria), University of Barcelona (Spain), International Mobile and Consulting Agency-INCOMA (Spain), National Accreditation and Evaluation Agency-ANECA (Spain). On the side of Vietnamese partners, there were representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and educational institutions including: Hanoi University, Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Central University of Art Pedagogy, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, Thai Nguyen University, University of Internal Affairs, Hanoi Tourism College and Ha Long University. Representatives of the Academy of Journalism and Communication participated in the webinar from Hanoi.

Opening the workshop, Mr. Dorel Manitiu – MOTIVE Project Coordinator welcomed representatives of the project’s partners attending the workshop in AlmaLaurea, Republic of Italy. This is an opportunity for the institutions to thoroughly discuss the issue of graduates and enhance students’ opportunities to participate in the labor market, and discuss the next work packages of the project.

At the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training emphasized the importance of the project MOnitoring Trends In Vietnamese graduates’ Employment – MOTIVE. In recent times, the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult for graduates to find suitable jobs. With the cooperation of partners from Europe and Vietnam, the project helps build a network of stakeholders, creating a basis for universities to enhance students’ employability and supporting students in starting business.

Speaking at the opening session of the conference, Dr. Vu Tuan Lam, Vice President of PTIT affirmed PTIT’s commitment to the implementation of the project. This is an important project, helping PTIT to survey the employment status of graduates at the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, thereby improving the quality of training and providing career guidance services for students. Ensuring that graduates have suitable jobs is one of the important criteria of training quality. With the active and effective participation of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises as a bridge between enterprises and universities, Dr. Vu Tuan Lam believes that in the near future there will be more enterprises belonging to the Association in localities across the country joining this system and more students can access job opportunities in the system of enterprises of the Association.

During the first working day, the workshop received reports related to students’ job-seeking skills, experiences in higher education cooperation in the world as well as experiences in collecting and analyzing information graduate students through assessment surveys. The project members also discussed the topic of graduates in order to make suggestions to enhance the capacity and job search ability of Vietnamese students.

Within the framework of the MOTIVE project, the project management board organized a writing contest “Graduates and the labor market” on topics related to students and job opportunities. At the seminar, Mr. Dorel Manitiu – Project Coordinator awarded the group’s best scientific article titled “Career orientation of final year students in Vietnam in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic”by the students from Hanoi University. The seminar also heard the representative of the author and student Nguyen Kim Ngan present their ideas and suggestions in the career orientation and job search opportunities of the students after graduation.

At the workshop, the project’s expert groups also had in-depth meetings, focusing on proposing solutions to some outstanding issues and orienting the action plan in the coming time, and at the same time making recommendations on the establishment of a National Center for Graduate Monitoring.

The project team also discussed and planned communication activities of the project in the coming time. This is one of the important work packages, helping to expand the network of higher education institutions, organizations, students and employers to further strengthen the connection and create platform, create job search opportunities for Vietnamese students. The next workshop is scheduled to be held from July 14 to July 16, 2022 in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, chaired by Ha Long University.

The MOTIVE project’s target is to study the employment situation of graduates in Vietnam and promote cooperation between universities and businesses. The project also aims to strengthen the connection between students and businesses to improve job opportunities for graduates. The project is funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.
