On August 8th, 2024, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Posts and Telecommunications Institute Technology jointly organized the 17th National Conference on Science (FAIR’2024) with the theme: “Artificial Intelligence in Digital Transformation”.

 

The conference was attended by: Prof. Dr. Dang Vu Minh – Former Central Committee member of the Party, Former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Honorary President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi – Former Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy – President of the Professor Title Council in Information Technology, President of the Vietnam Computer Society, President of the Club of Departments, Institute of Information Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong – President of the Council of Posts and Telecommunications Institute of  Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac – Director of the Institute, representing the leadership of institutes, universities, and information technology departments, and over 400 researchers nationwide.

The annual national conference on “Basic research and application of information technology” is a forum for scientists working in information technology, especially those in universities and research institutes nationwide, to present their latest results and exchange research and applications in information technology in practice.

The opening statement of the Conference by Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Thi, former director of the Institute of Information Technology at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, emphasized the significant benefits of AI in the digital transformation under the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Digital Transformation.” However, he also highlighted the evaluation and limitations of AI, particularly in the creation of fake content such as text, images, and videos, which poses challenges in social life. This has led many countries to establish necessary regulations to protect users and ensure the safety of society.

Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, Director of the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, shared that the institute is a leading university with rapid growth in Vietnam and is at the forefront of the ongoing digital transformation in all fields of the country. He emphasized the priority of enhancing the quantity and quality of scientific research, establishing research centers, and strengthening collaboration with scientists both domestically and internationally.

The conference, held over two days with the participation of over 400 scientists and researchers, featured approximately 200 submitted papers, with around 90 selected for presentation. The plenary session included two reports: “Recognition of Human Activities and Applications” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cuong from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, and “Automatic Processing of Han-Nom Texts” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Dien from the University of Science – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

Following the plenary session, the conference was divided into 7 specialized subcommittees focusing on various aspects of information technology research. The event was praised for its scale and the extensive participation of the Vietnamese information technology research community.

Additionally, during the conference, the Organizing Committee handed over the hosting responsibilities for the FAIR XVIIII Conference in 2025 to Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
