The collaborative training program between PTIT and VMO aims to provide students with practical experience in designing and testing semiconductor circuits, effectively preparing them for the semiconductor industry.

On August 8th, 2024, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and VMO Holdings Joint Stock Company (VMO) signed a cooperation agreement to implement a program for training digital chip design based on a closely integrated model between the enterprise and the academic institution. This is a significant step in the journey to develop high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

PTIT and VMO have collaborated to develop the field of integrated circuit design and semiconductor training.

In order to develop the semiconductor industry workforce by 2030 and beyond to 2045, PTIT is one of the five universities assigned by the Prime Minister to develop high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry. Starting from 2023, PTIT has been offering a specialized program in chip design with the goal of providing high-quality human resources equipped with specialized knowledge and practical skills according to international standards, enabling students to confidently enter the job market upon graduation.

According to the recently signed cooperation agreement between PTIT and VMO, with technical support from ARM – a leading semiconductor company, students will have direct access to and hands-on experience with ARM’s semiconductor chip architecture. The program’s instructors are experts from PTIT and VMO who have been trained abroad and have research experience in FPGA design in Australia and the United States. The program focuses on practical experience, allowing students to systematically practice circuit design, testing, and application in the semiconductor industry effectively.

This collaboration marks a significant step in the partnership between PTIT and VMO – the new ARM Approved Training Partner (AATP) in Vietnam. The program aims to expose students to semiconductor technology through internationally standardized training programs, thereby developing high-quality information technology and semiconductor industry human resources for Vietnam.

Statement at the Signing Ceremony by Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hoai Bac: In November 2023, in the United Kingdom, PTIT and ARM signed a memorandum of cooperation to enhance strategic relationships, aiming to promote practical community engagement in CEI and STEM education and research, with the participation of industry partners, university educational organizations, and other partners. VMO has recently become an official training partner of ARM. The close collaboration between the parties, with strong commitments, promises to bring significant value to learners, providing opportunities to access the world’s most advanced technology for students, early exposure to business environment, domestic and international employment opportunities.

In alignment with the Director of PTIT, Mr. Hoang Tuan Hai, CEO of VMO Holdings also believes that the close collaboration between PTIT and VMO affirms: “The implementation of the IC design workforce training program is also an important step in the collaboration between PTIT and VMO, aiming to help students access and learn about IC design through the implementation of internationally standardized training programs; thereby developing high-quality IT human resources in general and semiconductor technology in particular for Vietnam.”

Chairman of Arm Korea and Arm Vietnam, Mr. SW Hwang congratulated at the signing ceremony: “PTIT and VMO are the two most special partners of Arm. PTIT is the first member of the Arm Academy Access program in Vietnam, and VMO is the official training partner of Arm in Vietnam. I believe that PTIT’s and VMO’s IC Design training programs will contribute to achieving the goal set by the Vietnamese government to train 50,000 highly skilled semiconductor engineers by 2030. Vietnam is a young country with many technology talents, and Arm, along with its partners, will ensure the success of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.”

Official Launch of the “Advanced Semiconductor Circuit Design and Testing” Certification

At the signing ceremony, PTIT officially launched the Advanced Semiconductor Circuit Design and Testing certification and STEM training courses for students. This is an important step in PTIT’s training strategy, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.

Possessing the Advanced Semiconductor Circuit Design and Testing certification will open up many career opportunities for students, while helping high-tech companies obtain human resources that meet increasingly stringent market requirements.

Ms. Pham Thi Nhung, Head of Resources Department at VMO Holdings, believes that with strong resources from PTIT, VMO, and Arm, the semiconductor design and manufacturing training program aims not only to build highly specialized human resources but also to focus on nurturing innovative thinking, developing creative capabilities, and inspiring global technology exploration for Vietnamese students.

According to Associate Professor Nguyen Trung Hieu, Deputy Head of the Department of Electronics Engineering 1: “Becoming a semiconductor circuit engineer not only requires meticulousness, patience but also passion and dedication to learning, however, the income potential is very promising. This is a promising profession to invest in for students/engineers who wish to develop deeply and pursue long-term careers in the field of information technology. The introduction of the Advanced Semiconductor Circuit Design and Testing certification and STEM training courses for students will be essential for students, opening up new opportunities for students in the field of Electronics Engineering in general and specifically in chip design.”
