On February 24, 2022 in Hanoi campus, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., (a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated) and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) held the ceremony to announce  the cooperation program to promote the research technological innovation in Vietnam. Attending the ceremony were, Dr. Le Xuan Cong, Director of Science and Technology Department – Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Tran My An, Vice President of Technology, Qualcomm Technology Licensing, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh, Assoc. Prof.Dr. Dang Hoai Bac, Vice Presidents of PTIT and representatives of the two parties.

Through this collaboration, Qualcomm Technologies will fund four PTIT research teams with US$100,000 to conduct dedicated research in the areas of 5G, AI, IoT, and UAV systems in the period of 12 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Le Xuan Cong, Director of the Department of Science and Technology – Ministry of Information and Communications expressed his wish and hope that the cooperation program between PTIT and Qualcomm will be implemented and achieved many good results, which contribute to the development of high-quality information technology human resources for the country and meet the needs of Vietnam’s sustainable development and international integration.

Commenting on the partnership program with PTIT, Dr. An-Mei Chen, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Qualcomm Licensing Technologies said: “We are delighted to announce that this collaboration has firmly entered the new era of 5G, AI, cloud computing, and IoT technology applications. Qualcomm is proud to be supporting and enabling innovative ideas that demonstrate the power and the creativity of Vietnam’s technology leaders. I am sure that this research collaboration with PTIT will bring very successful results.”

Evaluating the cooperation program between PTIT and Qualcomm, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh, Vice President of PTIT emphasized: “Cooperating with the world’s leading corporations, especially BigTech such as Qualcomm, is one of the PTIT’s top priority strategies. 04 specific science and technology cooperation projects with Qualcomm announced and implemented from the beginning of 2022 will promise a good and long-term start, as well as bring the benefits to both Qualcomm and PTIT. The cooperation program between two sides receives the special interest of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam. PTIT sincerely thanks Qualcomm for their support in scientific research activities and hopes that the cooperation program will be effective and expanded to help Vietnam become a digital technology powerhouse in the region.

It is known that 4 projects funded by Qualcomm in 2022 include: (1) Study of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for road damage detection after flashfloods using GPS, digital map and computer vision by deep learning technology; (2) Developing a high-performance, low-latency, secure 5G-based Internet of Things Architecture; (3) Edge computing for the Internet of Things (IoT); (4) Development of digital healthcare solutions based on Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and a paper published in an international conference and/or national journal.
