The purpose of the Forum is to enhance the research cooperation among all ASEAN IVO members to cope with common challenges in the ASEAN by means of Information and Communication Technology.

This year, the Forum focuses on the two main topics of cyber security and smart society to be discussed in the agenda. In term of cyber security and its applications, the topic does not only focus on technologies, but also applications and integrated systems for R&D. In term of smart society, the focus of this topic is for ICT applications, providing specific solutions to ASEAN regional problems. Applicants can propose one of the three sub-topics: (1) smart community: to enrich people’s lives and make public services more efficient or protect communities from specific hazards and mitigate the effects of climate change on the environment; (2) smart city: to address the specific demands of dense metropolitan areas, such as pollution and overcrowding and (3) smart village: to identify the special needs of rural communities caused by the “digital divide”. The approved proposals will be granted by NICT.

Having speech at the Forum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Dang Hai, Vice President of PTIT stressed that “cyber security is seen as one of the top concerns in global ICT community. Nowadays, smart applications are increasingly applied to make people’s lives more convenient thanks to IoT-based technologies, however, the more convenient they are, the more insecure they become. As such, cyber security and smart society has close connection together and has influences on all aspects of social life”.
